NJ HPV Vaccination “Start at 9” Call to Action

The Vaccine is Most Effective When Administered Between Ages 9 and 12 Years

On-time HPV vaccination is between 9 and 12 years of age for optimal effectiveness of the vaccine (see table below). Unfortunately, only 27% of 13-year-old youth in NJ are fully vaccinated against HPV and therefore unprotected against the infection and future HPV cancers. A growing body of evidence shows that starting the HPV vaccine series at age 9, rather than waiting until age 11, increases series completion by age 13, and will therefore, save more lives.

Ask your NJ health organization to endorse “Start at 9” by sharing this Call-to-Action memo with your leadership and filling out this form when you are ready to endorse.

Supporting organizations agree to disseminate a letter urging vaccinating providers to start HPV vaccination at age 9 and to implement other evidence-based practices to increase timely HPV vaccine series completion.
